Local chef comes back to Kennett Square

Louis Thompson loves Kennett Square so much, he has come back home.

Thompson left the popular Le Castagne restaurant as chef to become master chef at La Verona Restaurant in Kennett Square. Thompson was also one of the chefs at Hartefeld Golf Course Restaurant for nearly a decade.

“Kennett is a growing area and I love it,” Thompson said. “Plus, I’m closer to my family.”

Thompson, a 2001 Kennett High School graduate, said he enjoys making food from scratch at La Verona. His specialty is Italian, and he said he is looking forward to the new mushroom-oriented menu at La Verona.

“We incorporating mushrooms into our new menu,” he said. “We’re using only local ingredients.”

Thompson said since he has been at La Verona, he has received many compliments. “One guy licked his bowl clean one night and told me I don’t have to worry about washing it,” he said.

Thompson is a 2003 graduate of the Art Institute in Philadelphia where he received his culinary degree. He said he plans on staying in Kennett for quite some time.
