Meet the faces behind the beauty at ‘Sunflower Celebration’

This Sunday, get a chance to tour the acres of sunflowers planted at the Brandywine and Red Clay Valley Association’s Myrick Center on 842 in Pocopson Township.

Meet the behind the scenes partners that are responsible for the 14-acres of flowers, Jim Jordan of the BVA, Jamie Hicks of Hicks Brothers and Charles Shattuck of Wild Birds Unlimited in Hockessin.

The trip will share the story of how they came together to start the project, which began with seeds imported from the Midwest and now relies on seeds produced by the cop itself.

Calling the event “From Farm to Feeder: A Sunflower Celebration,” Jordan said that last year’s impressive crop of sunflowers was one of the more popular attractions the organization has even seen.

At Sunday’s event, patrons can enjoy hayrides around the fields, sample sunflower-inspired snacks and an opportunity to pick a few of your own.

Plus hear the story behind this unique partnership where the three agencies work together to locally grow, mill and sell sunflower seeds – from farm to feeder.
